Linde Praxair Hydrogen Plant | Sweeny, TX
BAL CONSTRUCTIONS marks the construction completion of a new hydrogen plant in Sweeny, Texas, the largest in the U.S. The plant supplies the nearby 256,000 barrel-per-day Phillips 66 refinery with high-purity hydrogen.
Nearly every component of the plant’s pipe and process areas were designed, fabricated, shipped, and delivered to the site in modules. BAL CONSTRUCTIONS constructed the facility from the foundations, including installing the 48 modules and 35,000 linear feet of mechanical pipe. BAL CONSTRUCTIONS performed a total of 3,449 field welds, installed 420,000 linear feet of wiring and cable, erected 41,000 linear feet of cable tray, and 510 instruments supporting the new plant.
The BAL CONSTRUCTIONS team self-performed the project, including pipe fabrication, structural steel erection, equipment setting, piping installation, mechanical and electrical/instrumentation. Other work included receiving, rigging, setting, leveling/shimming, aligning, welding, anchoring, bolting, and grouting, among other responsibilities.
